My name is Owain Phillips, and I’m a broadcast journalist with Radio Ceredigion’s news department. I read the news from 9 – 3 from Monday to Friday, as well as contributing items for ‘Dros Ginio’. I’m originally from Gwendraeth Valley and studied at Aberystwyth University where I was awarded a first class honours degree in International Politics in 2008.
In my spare time, I’m a football referee in the Carmarthenshire League, and I hold a season ticket for the Ospreys. Another interest I have is reciting. I won the Solo Recital Under 25 competition at the Urdd Eisteddfod in 2006 and again in 2007. I also competed for the Bryn Terfel Scholarship in 2007.
As I have a keen interest in politics, my favourite novels include “1984” by George Orwell and “We Wish To Inform You” by Phillip Gourevitch as they show the effect that a weak political system can have on a population. I hope to continue in the field in the future.
